We want to thank all of you who visited our booth last week at EMC World and made it such a great success for us.

At the show, EMC formally presented us with the 2008 Best New Offering Award for Celerra, won by our QFS solution.

Also at the show we announced the new NTP Software QFS® System Dashboard (QSD™). QSD allows companies to see the impact of their storage policies and see trends in their end-users' compliance.

Most storage administrators would agree that you need to establish storage policies and enforce them. Companies can't allow everyone to store whatever they want on the corporate storage resources. But how do you know if your storage policies are effectively achieving the desired result? How do you go about evaluating the impact of your storage policies on the user community? This is not an easy task without the right tools to help you.

You need to understand the impact of storage policies so you can determine if they need to be adjusted to truly achieve your objectives. To do this you need meaningful data about the interaction your users have with the storage policies. Data is very valuable, but we often get too close to it to really appreciate patterns that can be even more valuable. In a recent issue of this newsletter we talked about how logs are a great example of this problem and how NTP Software Storage Events and Alerts Manager™ (SEAM™) is being offered for just that purpose. Here at NTP Software we are always striving to keep the important information front and center.

Think about NTP Software QFS® and the policies it provides. You can imagine that there are trends and patterns hidden in your users' actions, that if QFS could talk, you would love to know. It would be valuable to have baseline data. For example, it may be helpful to know how many emails are being sent out per day as part of the notifications you have configured. Facts such as which File Control Policy your users are triggering most in your environment, tell you something about their behavior. Seeing patterns and trends allows you to make adjustments as necessary. Maybe your policies are too restrictive, or maybe they are too lax. It is also helpful to know just how many transactions and users are being managed, as well as how many policies you have monitoring storage use.

We have created the NTP Software QFS System Dashboard (QSD) to provide exactly that information. QSD™ provides current statistics and historical trends relating to the interaction between end-users, storage resources, and the organization’s storage policies. QSD provides summary information and trends by user, policy, or system, across all of a company’s storage platforms. By extrapolating the trend lines, customers can anticipate the future impact of their storage policies, and see what changes might be appropriate.

QSD is designed to compile, in real-time, all the facts and figures that help you refine your use of NTP Software QFS to get the most out of your investment. QSD provides graphs and charts so you can see patterns and trends over time. This data gives you the insights you need to assess your storage policies and make adjustments.

We think you will be amazed at how much QSD can help you with ongoing analysis to ensure you are managing your users and their unstructured data effectively.
